A RESIDENT spotted three tarsiers in the mountainous part of Barangay Don Mariano in Lupon, Davao Oriental on Friday afternoon, February 3, 2023.
Glennford Montejo said while they were clearing their land, they were shocked to see three tarsiers in the Durian tree and the Buyo-buyo.
He said this is the first time they have seen a tarsier and they did not touch it.
They are happy for they thought that such animals can only be seen in Bohol.
They immediately reported it to their barangay to ensure its protection and handled properly.
Based on the pictures shared by vlogger Jopay The Explorer, the three healthy tarsiers can be seen perched on the branches and trees of the Durian and Buyo-buyo trees.
Under the International Union of Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Philippine Tarsier is considered a threatened species due to its declining population.
The Philippine Tarsier is protected under Republic Act 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act which prohibits its capture, killing and care.
