Salvaged man still unknown

POLICE have not identified the man found floating in the waters of Punta Dumalag in Matina, Davao City on June 15.

The man was suspected of having been a victim of salvaging, or extrajudicial killing.

Talomo Police Station commander Police Chief Inspector Ronald L. Lao said Monday, June 18, that no one has claimed and identified the victim.

Lao said they were waiting for the autopsy report from the crime laboratory to determine the cause of death of the victim. The body now lies at Angel Funeral Homes.

It can be recalled that on Friday, at around 1:50 p.m., two fishermen found the body of the unidentified man floating near the shoreline. His face was covered with a white cloth and his feet were tied. Stones were also attached to his body, apparently to pull it to the bottom of the sea. But the stones were not heavy enough because the body surfaced.

Lao said they were investigating the case. Authorities are also locating the area wherein a social media post on Facebook last June 5 showed that a certain person was caught stealing inside the house of a policeman at S.I.R Phase 2 Sandawa, Davao City.

Both persons have the same black shirt with the print “I LOVE DAVAO” and a plaid shorts. Lao said they were trying to determine if the man found at sea and the man caught stealing were one and the same person.

Based on the social media post, the suspect came from Midsayap, North Cotabato.

Lao added they tried to contact the person who have posted the picture but were not able to reach the person. The person no longer responded to their queries.

Lao said they have no record of a certain person involved in a theft incident in the area as there was no such case endorsed to their office.
