CENTRAL 911's Urban Search and Rescue (Usar) team is actively conducting search operations for the 19-year-old individual who drowned at a popular beach resort in Barangay Bago Aplaya, Davao City, on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at 3 p.m.

As of Monday afternoon, September 4, the 19-year-old has not yet been located. Due to the powerful waves, the search and retrieval operation had to be temporarily halted on Sunday afternoon.

Earlier, the lifeless body of his 13-year-old companion was recovered and pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

According to reports, both individuals were swimming despite the formidable size and strength of the waves, which led to their submersion and subsequent drowning.

The 13-year-old has already been laid to rest, while the family of the missing 19-year-old continues to hold out hope for a miracle.

The minor's remains are now in the care of the family, while others speculate that the 19-year-old's body may have been carried to deeper waters. They urge beachfront residents to promptly notify authorities if they spot a potentially deceased body along the shoreline.

These challenging conditions are attributed to the Hanging Habagat, resulting in sizable waves. JPC
