LAW enforcers in Davao are beefing up security measures to prevent the possible spillover of terrorism following the bombing incident in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat on Tuesday night, August 28.
Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 spokesperson Police Chief Inspector Milgrace Driz, during the AFP-PNP Press Corps media forum Wednesday, August 29, at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, assured the public that various law enforcement agencies are on guard to deter any terror plot aimed towards Davao City and Davao Region.
She added that they are anticipating the spillover of terrorist activities but assured that they are prepared.
"We are ready to combat this kind of terrorism kaya meron kaming coordinating conferences, coordination with our counterparts,” Driz said.
The Regional Law Enforcement Coordinating Conference is also being conducted to tackle the incidents in nearby provinces and cities and to come up with effective countermeasures against lawless elements.
“Our regional director has already ordered all units down to the station level to always be on alert especially target hardening and yong mga stations nila dapat naka-prepare na for any incidents and we are preparing everything para ma-ensure natin na Dabawenyos are safe,” Driz said.
Likewise, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson Police Senior Inspector Ma. Teresita Gaspan reiterated that they haven’t lowered their alert status especially that Martial Law is still in effect and their intelligence monitoring has been strengthened to gather information on suspicious activities and individuals.
Security inspections in identified checkpoints were also intensified.
Meanwhile, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio assured the public that Davao City remains safe.
The mayor said that the city never lowered its guard after the 2016 Roxas Night Market bombing and it will remain on heightened alert.
“Davao City has always been on red alert since the bombing incident two years ago and we never lowered our guards after that incident. And with the bombing incident in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat, all the more that our security forces will be vigilant,” she said.
Duterte-Carpio said the public's cooperation with the security measures is needed to ensure the safety of the people of the city.
“I am asking the public to cooperate with our security measures. There are random checkpoints and some other measures that the Davao City Police Office and Task Forces Davao are doing. I’d like to solicit everybody’s cooperation on this,” she said. (With PR)
