DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) conducted a send-off ceremony for security personnel who will be deployed during the celebration of the 82nd Araw ng Davao yesterday morning, March 1.

“Today, once again, we send off our security for the Araw ng Dabaw 2019. Our partnership in terms of cooperation and inter-operability will be tested with the days ahead,” DCPO director Alexander Tagum said in his message.

He also challenged those deployed to provide security, protection and be of service not only to Dabawenyos but to local and foreign tourists as well.

Tagum said that the security personnel will be deployed to ensure that everyone will enjoy and experience what is good and what is best in the city.

Meanwhile, Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) deputy head Angel Sumagaysay relayed that City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) officer-in-charge Generose Tecson said CTO relies on the security cluster for a safe and secured 82nd Araw ng Dabaw celebration.

Sumagaysay added, “Dako ang expectation that we can manage the peace and order. We can manage all the activities from day one up to March 31 (We are expected to manage the peace and order).” He also said that security forces deployed in different areas should be able to respond to any emergency as they are trained through simulation exercises.

Even though the highlight of the celebration is only until March 16, which is the Parada Dabawenyo, there are enclosed activities that will need security deployment like bowling, darts, and chess tournaments.

Police Regional Office (PRO) director Marcelo Morales said that the deployment of security personnel will prove that Davao City is one of the safest cities, not just in the Philippines, but in the whole world.

“Isa na naman itong hamon para sa ating lahat na kailangan nating matiyak ang kaligtasan ng ating mga mamayan at mga turista na gustong makipag-celebrate sa atin,” Morales said. (JCR, Shaira Mae Panilag - UM intern)
