Senior citizen who bought lottery ticket in Davao City wins P35-M grand prize

A LONE bettor from Davao City has already claimed her winning in the Lotto 6/42 grand prize worth more than P35 million on Valentine's Day, February 14.

In a Facebook post, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) announced that the winner, whose name was withheld, claimed the jackpot prize of P35,314,806.60 in its main office in Mandaluyong City.

The winning numbers drawn on January 17 this year are 34-24-02-06-33-07.

The bettor, who is a 63-year-old senior citizen, said she had purchased the winning ticket at a lotto outlet in the city.

She said she has never worked in her life because she needs to care for her family, including her grandchildren. Her only source of income is his late husband's Social Security System (SSS) pension.

PCSO said the new millionaire every Sunday, serves as a lector commentator at church.

In an interview, she said that the only numbers she has been paying attention to are 07 and 02 because her birthday is on July 2, while the other four numbers, 34-24-06, and 33, just came to mind and she began to shade them.

“Ngayon ko lamang po tinaayan ang kumbinasyong ng mga numero na ito (It is my first time to bet on this number combination)”, she said.

The lone bettor from Davao said she believes that miracles occur for those who are in need.

PCSO said that under the Tax Reform Acceleration and Inclusion (Train) Law, a 20 percent tax will automatically be deducted from the jackpot prize. Under the PCSO charter, winnings should be claimed within one year from the date of the draw, otherwise the same would be forfeited to form part of the PCSO Charity Fund.

The agency also reminded winners to secure their tickets and write their names and signature on the back.

“It must not be wrinkled, folded, or even have a single tear on it. The bar code must not be damaged, as it is an essential component of the ticket for validation. The lotto terminal should be able to read the barcode,” PCSO said in a statement. RGL with PR
