Sisters who escaped from Sarangani told to self-quarantine

SOUTHERN Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) said the two sisters who were brought to their facility, one identified as patient under investigation (PUI) while the other as person under monitoring (PUM), were advised to self-quarantine at home after they did not manifest signs and symptoms of coronavirus.

The two persons allegedly escaped from a hospital in Sarangani Province and went to Davao City. They were fetched by the representatives from the Department of Health (DOH) at the hotel they were staying and referred to SPMC.

SPMC Chief of Clinics Dr. Ricardo Audan told SunStar Davao that during their reassessment, they found out that the two are in good health with no signs of infection.

The two also had completed their 14-day incubation period.

Following the assessment, they were sent home and urged to take self-quarantine.

Audan also said as of 1 p.m. on March 13, there are a total of five PUIs confined in their isolation facility. He said he is a bit worried if the figure increases since their isolation facility can only accommodate six patients, and that they are still waiting for the result of the patients coming from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Manila.

Audan said the slow processing of specimen which further delays the release of results is one of the challenges that their facility is currently facing.

Since they do not have the result yet, they cannot release the patients even if some of them do not manifest symptoms of Covid-19 anymore.
