THE renovation of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) is on track to be completed by the beginning of 2024, according to Vice-Mayor and lawyer J. Melchor Quitain Jr.

Quitain explained that the SP's renovation is now in its final stages, with the addition of a new photo exhibit on the gallery of legislators on the building's second floor, resembling a museum.

The exhibit will feature new images and portraits generously provided by the 2nd district congressional representative, Vincent Garcia. Additionally, the SP's lobby has also undergone renovations.

“Karon naghuwat na lang mi sa framing and sa photos na print so very soon mura na na siya’g museum para atong mga bisita nga magbenchmarking whether LGU or kung asa sila gikan makita nila ang history pod sa Davao City (We are currently waiting for the framing and printing of the photos. Very soon, the gallery will resemble a museum, allowing our visitors, whether from the local government unit or other places, to see the history of Davao City)," Quitain said in a radio interview with Davao City Disaster Radio on September 13.

He also revealed plans to renovate the Sanggunian Session Hall to give it a modern appearance. The proposed upgrades include installing LED walls, enhancing the public address system, and improving the alarm and fire detection prevention systems.

The Session Hall's current design dates back to 1996, and the intention is to update the finishings to create a more contemporary atmosphere.

"Karon wala pa 'to [Session Hall] narenovate, perong kung mosulod ang mga bisita nato impressed kaayo sila, gwapo daw ang setup ug design, mura daw og sa Congress (Currently, it has not been renovated yet, but when visitors enter, they are impressed by its setup and design, as it resembles a Congress hall)," Quitain said.

The SP's renovation and modernization project, valued at approximately P3 million, was initiated during the tenure of former Davao City vice-mayor and current mayor, Sebastian "Baste" Duterte. ICE
