Student suffers burns from spray paint fire

A GRADE 7 student in one of the schools in Calinan, Davao City suffered several burns in different parts of her body after her abaca costume caught fire from a lighted candle because of the spray paint used for coloring it during their intramural program Friday afternoon, October 25.

Initial information gathered by Superbalita Davao revealed that Ann (name withheld), 13, a resident of Barangay Calinan, Davao City, was in Grade 3 room and was being assisted by her classmates in dressing up for her costume for the Mr. and Ms Intramurals.

Some of them sprayed paint on the costume she was wearing when the spray paint caught fire from a lighted candle placed on the floor.

Ann immediately hugged the two teachers who were assisting her, hoping that it would put out the fire from her dress, but the teachers' arms were also burned in the process.

The victims were then rushed to the Isaac Robillo General Hospital in Calinan.

The Grade 7 student, however, was advised to proceed to the Burn Center of the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) where she is currently being taken care of.

As of Friday, October 25, the school did not give any statement regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, the Calinan Police Station-Arson and Homicide Section is still conducting investigation regarding the incident.
