Surigao Sur town ex-mayor nabbed in Davao City

THE former mayor of Tagbina, Surigao del Sur was nabbed in Davao City Thursday morning, November 1 by corruption charges by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

The CIDG implemented the warrant of arrest issued by the Sandiganbayan in 2006 against former Tagbina, Surigao del Sur mayor Rufo Corambis Pabelonia, the CIDG-Criminal Investigation Detection Team-Davao head, Police Chief Inspector Milgrace Driz said.

Pabelonia, 65, was mayor of Tagbina town from 1986 to 1995.

The Sandiganbayan 3rd and 2nd Division ordered the arrest of Pabelonia for violation of Section 3e of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act issued by Judge Godofredo Legaspi (chairman, 3rd Division) on July 19, 2006 and Judge Edilberto Sandoval (Associate Justice and chairman of Sandiganbayan 2nd Division).

He was arrested around 8:30 a.m. at his residence in Kilomter 7.5, Purok 4, Matina Pangi, Davao City.

“Operatives of Davao City, City Field Unit (DCCFU) implemented this warrant of arrest in line with the CIDG flagship project Oplan Pagtugis,” Driz said.

Pabelonia is now under the custody of the Talomo police and will be brought to the Sandiganbayan in Quezon City for proper disposition of the case.

“We will implement our mandate to hunt down persons with warrants and to bring them to the folds of law without fear or favor. The warrant was peacefully and orderly served following the provisions of the Police Operational Procedures,” Driz said.
