AN improvised explosive device (IED) was used during the Ecoland vehicle bombing last June 15, the Police Regional Office - Davao Region (PRO-Davao) spokesperson Catherine Dela Rey confirmed.

"IED (improvised explosive device) po using [a] wireless remote receiver," Dela Rey said in a message with SunStar Davao when asked which explosive was used during the incident which happened last June 15.

The spokesperson said the possible cases filed against the persons of interest (POIs) will be violations of Republic Act (RA) 9516, also known as Illegal Possession of Explosives Law, and violations of Revised Penal Code (RPC) articles 155, 282, and 324, respectively.

The aforementioned RPC violations which could be filed against the suspects should include destruction using explosives, alarm and scandal, and grave threats to the lawyer.

Dela Rey said as of the moment, there are still three POIs, which are all under investigation.

Recently, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) chief Police Colonel Alberto Lupaz said in a radio interview on June 20 that they are in the process of “reconstructing the explosive” together with the Davao City Forensic Unit (CFU) and City Explosive K-9 Unit for validation.

Lupaz added that the incident is work-related, as the CCTV footage they have, could testify that the suspects had picked a certain vehicle and planted the explosive there.

He added that the car explosion in Ecoland is an “isolated case”, and the case is still under investigation as well. ICE
