DAVAO City’s newest night market in Toril launched its soft opening on June 1, according to the City Economic Enterprise (CEE) on Friday, June 2.

Manny Noblezo, focal person for the Toril Night Market which is also called the Toril Road 1 Night Market, said it is located between Makati Street and General Lao Street.

Currently it has 124 vendors — 84 for food and 20 each for accessories and ready-to-wear (RTW).

“Para ang tiga-south bound, pwede na sila sa (Residents from the south can visit the) Toril Night Market. (It would provide an opportunity to small businesses) and ma-employ pud ang mga helper sa atong mga micro businesses owners (employ helpers of our business owners),” Noblezo said during an interview with the Davao City Disaster Radio.

The Toril Night Market would similarly follow the security concept of Roxas Night Market, which involves the Davao City Police Office, Task Force Davao, and the Public Safety and Security Office among others.

In terms of sanitation and food safety, Noblezo said the vendors undergo mandatory orientation and food handling seminars before they are allowed to sell at the Toril Night Market. The Davao City Health Office (CHO) also conducts inspections of the food stalls.

“Sa among soft opening, naa ang mga personahe sa CHO (Personnel from CHO were present during the soft opening). Naga-monitor gyod sila sa atong mga food stalls para mabantayan gyud nato ang seguridad bahin sa pagkaon sa atong mamalitay (They monitor the food stalls),” he said.

As for the grand opening, there are no final discussions yet on the side of the Tiangge sa Katawhan Management Team who manages the night markets in the city.

“Mag convene pa ang Tiangge sa Katawhan Management Team. Pag makabuhat na resolution sa grand opening, magpahibalo ta sa public (Once there is a resolution for the grand opening, we will inform the public). Karon soft opening pa lang para ma-plastar atong mga vendors didto,” Noblezo said.
