A RECENT social media post suggests that the bus which struck a student from Sta. Ana Central Elementary School had a near-miss incident exactly one month prior, possibly foreshadowing the tragic event.

Tragically, a grade four female student was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital after being hit by a passenger bus on Thursday afternoon, September 28, 2023, at Trading Boulevard, Davao City.

Shortly after the incident was reported, social media users drew attention to a Facebook post by a certain Dodican Setinrep dated August 28, 2023. It was pointed out that the bus involved in the accident shared the same plate number as the one in Setinrep’s August 28 post.

The social media user expressed frustration that the bus driver appeared to lack proper training in handling the vehicle, despite being described as an “experienced driver”.

In the post, dated August 28, the user mentioned that both vehicles were headed towards the Panabo area. They advised the driver to refrain from bringing personal issues onto the road, as it could lead to accidents.

“[N]ag salig ne sya sa eyang sakyanan kay dako ang akoa bunggo rajd tawon… besag duble yellow line overtik gehaponka gamay nalangjd kaauko maepet ganena dh sa may bengkongan [sic] (He seems so confident of his vehicle being very huge versus my vehicle which is just a bongo, please be mindful when overtaking on double yellow lines and please be cautious when passing through the Bengkongan),” the Facebook user stated in his post, August 28.

The Facebook user even advised the supposed driver to “do not bring his issues along the road” while driving as he can cause an accident.

“[K]ong naakay problima sa inyoha ayaw dalaha sa kalsad kay makadamy intawonka sa emong mga pasahero og uban pang mga tawo (If you encounter any issues along the way, please do not bring them onto the road, as it can inconvenience both your passengers and other individuals),” the user added.

Setinrep’s Facebook post displaying the bus’ plate number matches the one involved in the incident on September 28. It has been reported that a case of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide will be filed against the bus driver.

Currently, the bus driver, identified as Efren C. Cerona Jr., is in custody at the San Pedro Police Station. He hails from Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte, and was operating a bus with plate number NAY 8291. ICE
