THE Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO) head said they are yet to identify who was responsible for vandalizing the bridge’s railing along the Davao City Coastal Road.

“Dili man nato na madali-dali pero syempre basin maka-tsamba ta na naay nagbinuang, atong dakpon (The process [of apprehending the offender] will not be that quick but once we will caught someone who will vandalize the road, we will make him or her accountable),” PSSO head Angel Sumagaysay said in an interview with SunStar Davao on July 17.

It can be noted that a photo of a vandalized railing of the bridge last July 12 went viral, and caught the attention of netizens and Davao City officials.

“[A]yay nag sugod na sila... *sad emoji* [sic] (They are now starting to vandalize the road),” a post by Facebook user Bon Bon wrote.

Sumagaysay said they have observed individuals vandalizing their names on the bridge’s railings along the coastal road.

He also said their office has been consistently reminding people not to engage in vandalism but there are still “hard-headed people” that for some reason continue to litter and vandalize the coastal road.

The official explained that those caught vandalizing will face charges in accordance with the Anti-Littering Ordinance.

Sumagaysay also calls on Dabawenyos to stay disciplined — that it should be common sense for people not to vandalize public properties — which includes the coastal road.

“Makita natong daghan vandalism sa syudad, dili na dapat na i-remind na sa mga tao, naa man ta’y pangutok, kabalo man ta na tama ba ning bandalan ko ni o dili, nasa tao gyud na siya (We observe there are a lot of (properties being) vandalized in the city, the people should not be reminded anymore against it, we have common sense, we already knew whether vandalism is good or not, it’s in the people really),” Sumagaysay said.
