AUTHORITIES are continuing their investigation into the brutal killing of a man in Barangay Wangan, Calinan District, Davao City where the victim was allegedly hacked to death by his own brother in the early hours of Sunday, July 20, 2025.
The victim, identified only as “Jay,” 34, was found lifeless and soaked in blood inside his home at Purok 1-B, Baring.
Police reports from the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) indicate that around 3:30 a.m., the suspect — known as “Junjun,” 39 — allegedly barged into Jay’s house while he and his family were sleeping.
Armed with a machete and reportedly under the influence of alcohol, the Junjun attacked the victim repeatedly.
Despite efforts to defend himself, Jay sustained multiple hack wounds and stab injuries, particularly to the head and face, rendering him unrecognizable.
The suspect allegedly used a stone during the attack as well.
The violence did not spare Jay’s wife, “Lily,” who suffered serious injuries to her head and body, along with their 11-month-old baby, who was also wounded.
Responding authorities rushed both mother and child to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Initial police findings suggest the suspect was enraged over suspicions of an illicit affair between the victim and his wife, which he allegedly confessed to investigators following his arrest at the crime scene.
The suspect is now under police custody and faces charges of murder and frustrated murder.
The DCPO said further investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances behind the incident, while ensuring justice for the victims. DEF
