A MAN who hacked his own brother to death and injured his sister-in-law and 11-month-old niece on July 20, 2025, in Barangay Wangan, Calinan, Davao City, is officially facing multiple criminal charges, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) confirmed.

Authorities filed murder and double frustrated homicide charges against the suspect identified only as “Junjun,” 39, on July 21, a day after the gruesome attack that left the victim, 34-year-old Jay Sato Pandian, dead with multiple hack wounds and his face smashed with a rock.

Police investigators believe the assault was triggered by jealousy and long-standing family tensions, which had reportedly escalated over the years.

The suspect allegedly accused his younger brother of having an affair with his wife, though family members dismissed the claim as baseless and delusional.

According to Calinan Police Station acting station commander Police Major Robel Saavedra in a radio interview, the two brothers had a history of violent disputes, often reported to local authorities but never brought to court because the family would always reconcile.

Saavedra said the suspect immediately surrendered at the crime scene and admitted to the killing. He reportedly begged officers to end his life so he could “follow” his brother in death. After his surrender, the suspect even searched their compound for a venomous snake, allegedly attempting to get bitten in a suicide attempt.

The victim’s wife and their 11-month-old daughter sustained injuries during the attack but survived. They are currently recovering under medical care.

Davao City authorities are also looking into the possibility that the suspect was intoxicated at the time of the incident, further fueling his violent outburst.
