THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) clarified that no kidnapping took place in the recent case of a 17-year-old girl who was reported missing in Toril District, revealing that the incident stemmed from a personal decision rather than foul play.

In an interview with dxDC RMN Davao, Police Major Sheryl Bautista, station commander of the Toril Police Station, stated that the narrative of a kidnapping was false. She confirmed that the girl had voluntarily gone to visit her boyfriend in Barangay Maa on Monday, July 14, 2025, without informing her parents of her plans.

According to the investigation, the girl's parents had prior knowledge of her visit but still reported her missing after she failed to return home. The boyfriend’s family was also aware of her presence in their residence, prompting them to encourage her to return home.

However, the girl refused to be personally accompanied and instead asked to be dropped off at Barangay Bato in Toril District, where she was later found.

Authorities were first alerted after a concerned resident spotted the girl crying and seeking help in a grassy area along the roadside in Purok 12, Barangay Bato. She was immediately rescued by responding police personnel.

Despite earlier reports speculating a possible abduction, the DCPO maintained that there was no evidence supporting such claims. Investigators also reviewed CCTV footage in both Maa and Toril to verify the girl's movements and statements.

Major Bautista said police continue to gather information and validate the statements of the involved parties, but assured the public that there are no suspects on the run and that the situation is under control.

The official added that the case serves as a reminder of the importance of communication within families, especially involving minors, and the need for careful verification before alarming the community with unverified claims. DEF
