THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has confirmed the appointment of Colonel Mannan Muarip as its new acting director, replacing Colonel Hansel Marantan, who has been reassigned to national duties in Camp Crame.
Muarip’s formal assumption of office is set for July 16, 2025, at the DCPO headquarters.
Muarip currently serves as chief of the Salaam Center under the Directorate for Police Community Relations (DPCR) at Camp Crame in Quezon City. His appointment took effect on July 11, according to DCPO spokesperson Captain Hazel Caballero, who confirmed the news on Saturday afternoon.
He will take over leadership from Colonel Mariano Rodriguez, deputy regional director for administration of the Police Regional Office-Davao Region (PRO-Davao), who temporarily led the DCPO following Marantan’s departure.
On June 30, Col. Hansel Marantan confirmed his reassignment to the Peace Process and Development Center (PPDC) in Camp Crame.
He said his new role involves direct coordination with various government agencies to address armed conflict and strengthen peacebuilding efforts, particularly in areas affected by insurgency and extremism. His work will focus on national security concerns related to groups such as the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and Abu Sayyaf.
Marantan cited health concerns for his departure. He formally asked for relief from his post on June 13, following his total knee replacement with a titanium spine and 52 metal screws.
Marantan served as DCPO chief for 11 months, during which he led multiple peace and order campaigns in Davao City.
Colonel Muarip is expected to bring with him strong expertise in community engagement and counter-radicalization, stemming from his work at the Salaam Center, which focuses on outreach and collaboration with Muslim communities. DEF
