DAVAO City Councilor J. Melchor Quitain Jr. revealed that the fire station and police station near Victoria Plaza would be demolished, as the property’s new owners plan to utilize the entire area.

Quitain said that despite the demolition of the two structures, the previous owner of Victoria Plaza, the NCCC Group, has identified two new locations free of charge where the new fire and police stations will be constructed.

He clarified that the stations are only being relocated. According to Quitain, the police station will be transferred beside the McDonald’s branch near Victoria Plaza, while the fire station will be relocated to another NCCC property in Cabaguio. He added that the proposed sites have already been inspected and that the city government is amenable to the locations.

“My committee is finalizing the paperwork for that, but the construction is being done,” he said during the Pulong Pulong sa Dabawenyos on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

Quitain said the city was fortunate that the previous owners of Victoria Plaza allowed the local government to use a portion of the property for the construction of a fire station and police station to serve the surrounding community in times of emergency.

He also recalled how Victoria Plaza became an iconic landmark and one of the most memorable destinations for Dabawenyos.

After more than 32 years as Davao City’s first and oldest mall, Victoria Plaza officially closed its doors on December 31, 2025.

Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC) is set to take over the 9.6-hectare property in 2026, signaling a new chapter for the site.

The mall’s closure was marked by a farewell walk and tour on December 30, 2025, organized by renowned photographer Jojie Alcantara in partnership with NCCC.

Victoria Plaza Commercial Center was inaugurated and blessed on March 16, 1993. Built and managed by Davao Sunrise Investment & Development Corporation, the mall’s opening drew hundreds of Dabawenyos, making it one of the city’s top shopping destinations during its time. RGP
