THE Police Regional Office-Davao Region (PRO-Davao) has clarified that none of their high-ranking officers tested positive for illegal drugs, contrary to reports previously shared by a vlogger, which garnered criticisms on social media, particularly Facebook.
The incident followed when a Davao-based radio news outlet published an image featuring PRO-Davao spokesperson Police Major Catherine Dela Rey early this week. However, the image did not align with the full content of the article.
On April 7, 2025, PRO-Davao Regional Director Police Brigadier General Leon Victor Rosete clarified that Dela Rey was not involved in any illegal activities. He explained that it was a male police officer from New Bataan, Davao de Oro, who tested positive for methamphetamine, a dangerous drug, during a random drug test conducted as part of the Philippine National Police's (PNP) internal cleansing program.
“The office values transparency, which is why we are reporting the result of this drug test,” Rosete said in a statement.
“This claim is completely false and misleading. PMAJ Dela Rey did not test positive and continues to serve as the official spokesperson of PRO-Davao in good standing. The spread of this fake information is being taken seriously and may lead to legal action,” the statement continued.
Dela Rey and PRO-Davao emphasized that drug testing is a mandatory requirement for all members of the PNP, and that recent drug tests among PRO officials did not violate any laws nor did they result in any positive tests for illegal substances.
