DAVAO CITY — In response to ongoing social media attacks and circulating misinformation, Davao City Councilor and former Vice Mayor Bernard Al-ag sets the record straight on the controversial P2.2 billion Supplemental Budget No. 2 of the Davao City Government through a new mini-vlog series titled “DOKumentado: Ang Kamatuoran sa Davao City."
Uploaded in his designated communication page named We Support Bernie Al-ag for Vice Mayor, he clarified that contrary to what fake news peddlers claim, he did not block the salary increase for city employees. Instead, he questioned the P354 million allocation for 354M Budget for Capability Building on Sectoral Issuances and
Existing Programs and Services/ seminars and training programs to be conducted within just a few months.
He expressed concern over the large amount being spent on trainings, especially when compared to the measly P250,000 budget for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), which he said went against his conscience.
Al-ag, who is also running for Vice Mayor of Davao head on against incumbent Mayor Baste Duterte, suggested that the budget would be better spent on urgent and tangible public needs, such as the repair of broken traffic lights, medical assistance for the poor and PWDs, rehabilitation of public markets and cemeteries, and drainage projects in flood-prone areas.
He also clarified that despite his objections to certain allocations, the 20th Davao City Council still passed the supplemental budget, which included the release of funds for salary increases for plantilla employees and gratuity pay for job order and contract of service workers.
According to Al-ag, the spread of misinformation was deliberately done to stir anger among Dabawenyos against him, especially as he is running against Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte in the vice mayoral race in the upcoming elections. PR
