THE 2025 Nutrition Month celebration officially kicked off on Tuesday morning, July 1, at People’s Park in Davao City, led by the National Nutrition Council (NNC). This year’s theme is “Food Nutrition and Security, Maging Priority! Sapat na Pagkain, Karapatan Natin!”
Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Retsebeth M. Laquihon, in her welcome remarks, emphasized that the event aims to elevate food and nutrition from basic needs to a fundamental human right.
"The purpose of this event is to raise awareness and promote the importance of nutrition as a fundamental right and a key to sustainable development,” she said.
She acknowledged that despite existing development plans, millions of Filipinos still suffer from hunger, malnutrition, and food insecurity, posing serious threats to their well-being.
“There is a persistent problem and challenges on malnutrition and food insecurity faced by millions of Filipinos. Despite development plans, many Filipinos still experience hunger and malnutrition, threatening their health,” she said.
Laquihon called for stronger collaboration across sectors to shape policies that support the local food system in the Davao Region and raise public awareness.
She also said that unity and shared responsibility are vital in achieving food security and eliminating malnutrition in the country. Chrestina Galarion, SPAMAST Intern
