TODAY is a special day because it’s Mother’s Day. It’s so special that commercialism has capitalized on it. Nevertheless, I think it is only fit that mothers (and fathers too, on their own special day) are celebrated for everything they have done for the family. There are mama’s boy sons and mommy’s bff daughters for a reason. Nanay just puts in so much time and effort for us that it’s kinda difficult not to appreciate them.
At certain points in our lives, there are moments when we share a cat and dog life with them. And yeah, they do nag endlessly and never hesitate to pepper their “speeches” with I-told-so’s but well, we learn from it regardless if Momshie was wrong or right (usually right). She may not have the final say, but for sure, her input made us think and seriously deliberate our decisions.
The best meals are made by mothers, I would like to think. They’re what comfort food is all about. Their recipes are sacred and the bases of all taste tests of similar food that we will ever get to eat in our whole life. That’s why meals that taste the way Mom makes it always get two thumbs including two big toes, up!
No horror film can ever send chills down your spine the way an angry Momma’s stare does. Nothing similar can ever stop you dead in your tracks. And, her twisting pinches remain unparalleled as one of the most painful sensations to ever touch the skin of whichever part of your body she decides to receive it! I should also mention all those moments spent lunging her flying tsinelas (house slippers) or any kind of footwear she can get her hands on just to express her feelings without saying a word. Hehe. Sure, we laugh about it now but during those times, they were not funny at all!
Moms have different ways of showing their love and care, I guess. I think about mine and laugh at the good and bad times equally! No matter what, I learned a lot and I am truly thankful for my own superhero in the house.
Things do not always turn up roses for my Mama. She has endured serious family things including two deaths, the second just happening last February. Through all the challenges, my Supermama rises from the ashes like the graceful, beautiful Phoenix that she is. I know your Mom does too.
