Editorial: Reason for the season

THIS is the most joyous time of the year.

Yet, most of the time we get lost in the preparations or the Christmas rush as we eagerly anticipate the celebration of our Lord Jesus Christ's birth, although we can't still determine when his real birthday was.

We can't discount the excitement from little children's sparkling eyes as they expect to receive gifts from their godparents and loved ones.

The adults, too, have also embraced the Christmas spirit by being more generous than usual and living up to the "better to give than to receive" adage.

However, let us not forget that over and above the giving and receiving gifts, donning brand new clothes and accessories, sporting a new hairdo or nail polish or going in a grand vacation anywhere in the country or abroad, the lavish feast during Noche Buena and class or family reunions, the season is made possible because of Jesus Christ.

His birth (becoming man) changed the course of humanity, especially for his believers. His death and resurrection gave us a new lease in life like a rebirth. Everything that Jesus did as a human has indeed made an impact to generations past, present and future.

There is no Christmas without Jesus Christ. He is the reason for the season.

As we celebrate his birth, let us be thankful for every good and challenging situation we faced this year, giving Him all the glory for every victory and trusting Him even more in times of defeats.
