Estremera: A rollercoaster ride for a newbie

Estremera: A rollercoaster ride for a newbie

I FINALLY watched a Mission: Impossible film, yeps, my first very time.

The reason why I am perceived to be brave and courageous is because I have practically very little concept of fear; the kind of fear the whole world indulges in through watching films with violence, horror, carnage, conspiracy theories, suspense, and everything that plays with your brain.

I do make exceptions, namely, J.R.R. Tolkien and J.K. Rowling. Not even George R.R. Martin makes the great. Too violent according to my standards plus with more than my self-imposed dose of betrayals and too many dirty fingernails. No.

Other than these, I’m still waiting impatiently for Part 4 of Kung Fu Panda. Throw in more Ice ge and Despicable Me series, then I will be in film heaven. But, sorry, nothing’s on the horizon, and so there I was in a moviehouse filled to capacity watching Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1 and truly enjoyed it. (Thank you, SM Lanang Premier!)

It wasn’t bad at all even if half of the time I was covering my eyes with my hands. I can get used to all the running and stunts and that’s because, I didn’t see blood. Even though it’s an action film, there wasn’t any unreasonable attachment to dripping blood and splattered blood and oozing blood like many action films.

It was a fun film that can stand even if you remove half an hour of its running time. I just didn’t like that they killed off... (spoiler erased!). Nyahahaha! Go watch. It’s a fun film. Action-packed, no blood.

Just for discussion purposes: Given this aversion to violence and bloodbaths, I guess I’m the worst film critic you can find. For what credentials do I have to show when I’m not even a movie (not even Netflix) fan?

Indeed, I have nothing to show. But one thing I can be proud of: I am free of self-induced and imagined fears and I am happy that way. Don’t you think it’d be wonderful if your kids (and yourself) are fearless this way as well? Then you can face whatever challenges real life throws at you without preconceptions that are based on fantasies, conspiracy theories, imagined doomsday scenarios, and artistic freedom. Chill.
