Hidalgo: Of durian and caves

TALK Durian. Talk Davao. The fruit which smells like hell but taste like heaven.

With the surge in demand during the Kadayawan Festival, the price of durian has increased due to the demands from both local and international markets. The price now is P150 per kilogram compared to only P15/kg to P20/kg in 2015.

The urbanization of the city has put the production of durian at risk. The farms are converted into residential areas. The conversion of agricultural lands to residential are up to the land owners. With the city's Revised Zoning Ordinance of 1996, the land owner has to get the approval of the City Council.

Permeable Pavements

With the rainy season, our streets are being flooded and the permeable pavement system is being considered to be used through city ordinances. The proposed ordinance seeks to convert the conventional concrete pavement into permeable pavement. The permeable pavement is a water management facility that allows water to move through void spaces within the pavement and eventually infiltrate into underlying soil.

Flooding causes inconveniences to many people from students to businessmen. Floods also cause diseases detriment to the people's health like leptospirosis and athlete's foot.
