THE Police Regional Office-Davao Region (PRO-Davao) will deploy 6,000 police personnel for the upcoming local and national elections slated on May 12, 2025.
“For the election period, our security plan is ongoing. As of now, our deployable personnel will reach 6,009,” PRO-Davao spokesperson Major Catherine Dela Rey bared on January 8, during the Davao Peace and Security Press Corps
She said thousands of personnel will be augmented across the region starting January 12, however, they are still awaiting the exact number of organizations that would offer their services during the elections as data are yet to be determined.
Since last year, PRO-Davao has already reassigned police officers with relatives running for the elections as part of the guidelines implemented by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
“We already gave notice last year; in the PNP, the reassignment is already regular. It is part of our work, and we definitely will ask authority or approval from the Comelec if we have an assignment and reassignment,” she said.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) will implement a nationwide gun ban on January 12 to ensure peace and order during the election period by reducing the potential for election-related violence. Dela Rey said during this time, it would be illegal for civilians, private citizens, and even some government officials to carry firearms outside of their residences.
Authorized individuals, such as law enforcement officers, military personnel, and those having particular permits or exemptions from the authorities, are excluded from the gun ban. DEF
