THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) and Task Force Davao (TFD) intercepted nearly P7 million worth of illegal drugs at the Sirawan checkpoint in Toril District on Saturday night, February 8, 2025. The operation is part of the city's intensified efforts to prevent the entry of illicit substances.
Authorities flagged down a white Nissan Navara pickup (plate number NI739A) carrying two suspects, identified by their aliases “Mijan,” 46, from Zamboanga City, and “Abden,” 32, from Jolo, Sulu.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a heat-sealed plastic pack containing 1,020 grams of suspected shabu, valued at P6,936,000. Officers also seized 84 pieces of 200-peso bills, totaling P16,800, believed to have been intended as bribes.
This operation aligns with Ordinance 048-22, which enforces stricter border security, especially during major events. Task Force Davao (TFD) commander Colonel Rodrigo Mariñas Jr. commended the officers’ vigilance, stating that the continued seizure of illegal drugs proves the effectiveness of security operations in keeping Davaoeños safe.
“The consistent seizure of illegal drugs at our border control points demonstrates the effectiveness of our security operations. These efforts are essential in ensuring the safety and well-being of every Davaoeño by preventing illegal substances from entering the city,” Mariñas said.
The suspects and confiscated evidence have been turned over to Toril Police Station for further investigation. Charges will be filed under Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The DCPO underscored that the successful operation reflects Davao City's unwavering commitment to combating the drug trade and safeguarding its citizens from the harmful effects of illegal drugs. DEF
