THE City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) has confirmed that political candidates may participate in the 88th Araw ng Dabaw’s Parada Dabawenyo on March 16, provided they adhere to event guidelines.

Jennifer Romero, CTOO officer-in-charge, stated during the ISpeak media forum that there is no directive barring politicians from joining the parade.

“Wala man tay directive or rule na dili sila  invited because we live in a democratic country man but they have to follow our guidelines (We have no rule stating they are not invited because we live in a democratic country. However, they must strictly follow the guidelines),” she said.

Among the standard rules, sponsors, and participants—including politicians—are prohibited from throwing promotional or campaign materials during the parade.

Romero said that rule enforcement has been strengthened this year due to the campaign season, ensuring the parade remains a non-political event.

The CTOO has yet to receive confirmation on whether any national politicians will attend.

According to the event’s general guidelines, civic organizations, NGOs, private companies, schools, universities, government institutions, and barangay units are welcome to join.

However, distributing flyers, giveaways, or handbills is strictly prohibited to prevent disruptions.

Additionally, non-enforcement personnel may not wear security uniforms, and the use of smoke-belching vehicles, party poppers, confetti, or fireworks is not allowed.

The guidelines also state that the parade should not be used for political campaigning.

The Parada sa Dabaw is set on March 16, 2025, from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., serving as the culminating event of the month-long Araw ng Dabaw celebration. RGP
