TRANSLOCATED male Philippine Eagle "Lakpue" is receiving medical treatment in Davao City after losing a talon in a domestic dog attack in Burauen, Leyte.
In a field update posted on its official Facebook page on August 21, 2026, the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) said responders rescued the raptor on August 16.
PEF veterinarian Dr. Danielle Pasion and senior keeper Dominic Tadena administered immediate first aid at the site.
The eagle was transported to Davao City on August 18 and admitted to Doc Bayani’s Animal Wellness Clinic for treatment and disease screening under Dr. Sheen Gadong.
Lakpue will be moved to the Philippine Eagle Center in Malagos, Calinan, for rehabilitation once cleared.
While losing a talon affects an eagle's ability to grip and subdue prey, the PEF emphasized that the injury does not automatically rule out a return to the wild.
Rehabilitation staff will evaluate his balance, agility, and hunting efficiency to determine if he can survive independently before making any final decisions.
To recall, the 23-year-old raptor was translocated to Leyte in late 2025 as part of conservation efforts to reintroduce the species to Eastern Visayas following Super Typhoon Yolanda. GRS
