THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) is investigating a fatal shooting at Purok 1, Barayco, Barangay 5-A, in Bankerohan on Monday evening, January 20, 2025, that left a 50-year-old man dead.
Authorities are working to identify the suspect and determine the motive behind the attack.
The victim, identified as Marli Cadel Masocol from Sta. Maria, Davao Occidental, sustained a gunshot wound to the left temple. He was rushed to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) but was pronounced dead by attending physicians.
"The victim’s cadaver is currently at the SPMC morgue, pending proper disposition," the DCPO stated in its initial report. "The identity of the suspect and the motive behind the killing remain unknown. A follow-up investigation is underway."
According to a police blotter, Masocol was inside his Mitsubishi Strada pick-up, parked in front of market stalls, when he was shot.
Witnesses described the suspect as a man wearing a red sweatshirt and denim shorts, who fled on foot toward the interior of Barayco immediately after the incident.
Investigators recovered evidence at the scene, including a fired .45-caliber cartridge case and a black Nokia keypad-type cellphone. The victim's vehicle and other personal belongings have also been brought to the station for further verification. DEF
