AS THE 2025 midterm elections draw near, the Police Regional Office-Davao Region (PRO-Davao) has issued a strict reminder to its personnel: moonlighting or providing private security to political candidates is prohibited.

PRO-Davao spokesperson Major Catherine Dela Rey warned that officers caught moonlighting will face dismissal. She urged the public to report any violations, stressing that police officers must not be involved in private security arrangements for candidates.

This follows a directive from Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil, reiterating the ban on such activities.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) also regulates the use of security personnel during the election period, which started on January 12. According to Comelec Resolution No. 11067, candidates can only hire private security with explicit authorization.

The crackdown aims to ensure election fairness, preventing the misuse of security resources for political advantage. DEF
