THE Police Regional Office-Davao Region (PRO-Davao) confiscated 881 loose firearms as part of its intensified campaign against the spread of illegal weapons. These firearms, seized between September 24, 2024, and February 9, 2025, were presented on Wednesday, February 12, at Camp Sgt. Quintin M. Merecido in Buhangin, Davao City.
Under the leadership of PRO-Davao Regional Director Police Brigadier General Leon Victor Z. Rosete, the firearms were either confiscated, captured, surrendered, deposited, abandoned, or forfeited (CCSDAF).
Of the total, 261 were seized during the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Gun Ban from January 12 to February 9.
The confiscated items include 213 small arms, six explosives, and 42 improvised or homemade firearms. These weapons are now stored at PRO-11’s Pulis Bagani Hall in Camp Sgt. Quintin M. Merecido.
Rosete said that these seizures are part of ongoing police operations and the strict enforcement of the gun ban, aimed at preventing election-related violence and ensuring a peaceful 2025 National and Local Elections (NLE) and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Barmm) plebiscite.
"We remain fully committed to targeting individuals and groups involved in illegal firearms possession. Anyone found violating the gun ban will face legal consequences," Rosete stated.
He also highlighted the "Revitalized Katok" initiative, a proactive program that promotes responsible firearm ownership and discourages the illegal possession of weapons to reduce crime.
With the elections approaching, PRO-Davao reassures the public of its commitment to maintaining law and order, working closely with partner agencies to uphold safety and security in the Davao region. RGP
