IN CELEBRATION of the 2nd anniversary of Duaw Davao, the 20th City Council has approved a resolution to enact an ordinance authorizing the temporary closure of portions of San Pedro Street to allow for event preparations and festivities under the Fiesta sa San Pedro Paghiusahay.
Councilor Conrado Baluran presented the ordinance during the Council’s 24th regular session on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. details specific street closures, dates, and times to ensure a smooth and safe celebration.
“This is again a resolution to enact an ordinance for the temporary road closure to vehicular traffic on the following dates and streets, in connection with the upcoming second anniversary of Duaw Davao,” Baluran stated at the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
Per the ordinance:
Partial road closure will be enforced at San Pedro Square (corner Bolton Street near Jay Juaton Salon to Chowking San Pedro) starting 1:00 a.m. on June 27 until 12:00 p.m. on June 29 for the ingress, hauling, and stage setup behind Aguila Stage.
Full road closure of the same area will follow on June 29, from 12:01 p.m. to 12:00 midnight, during the height of the Fiesta sa San Pedro Paghiusahay.
The motion passed without objection and was supported by the Davao City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO), headed by OIC Jennifer R. Romero, who formally requested the closure. The City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) also gave its clearance, subject to safety measures like emergency lanes, reflectorized signages, traffic cones, deployment of authorized personnel, and proper restoration of affected areas.
The ordinance is in accordance with Section 21(c) of Republic Act No. 7160, or the Local Government Code of 1991, which allows local governments to temporarily close roads for public events and festivities.
The Council underscored that the ordinance is crucial for ensuring public safety and maintaining organized traffic during the city-wide celebration.
