THE 20th Davao City Council approved the temporary road closure in both portions of Roxas Avenue – in front of Ateneo de Davao University and at the Aldevinco area – on June 6 or 7, for the celebration of Eid'l Adha (Feast of Sacrifice).

Councilor Conrado Baluran, chairperson of the committee on transportation and communications, proposed the ordinance for the temporary road closure on a tentative date from 4 to 9 a.m., depending on the moon sighting result in connection with Eid'l Adha.

Pamikiren Latip Arumpac Jr., acting chairman and deputy mayor of the Bangsa Iranun, requested the temporary closure of the mentioned streets and date in line with the celebration.

According to Republic Act No. 7160, also known as the Local Government Code of 1991, Section 21 stipulates that any national or local road, alley, park, or any square can be temporarily closed due to emergency, fiesta, celebration, public rallies, agricultural or industrial fairs.

On May 21, 2025, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., through Proclamation No. 911, proclaimed June 6, 2025, in observance of Eid'l Adha.

"Following the 1446 Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos has recommended that 06 June 2025, Friday, be declared a national holiday, in observance of Eid'l Adha," the ordinance stated.

Eid'l Adha is one of the major religious feasts of Islam, commemorating the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. RGP
