90 entries eyed in Kadayawan judo

SOME 90 judokas are expected to join the 33rd Kadayawan sa Dabaw Festival judo competition that will get underway on August 18 at the Mats College of Technology.

Davao Judo Association and Southern Mindanao Judo Association general secretary Janina Marinessa Maelwas, in a Facebook interview with Sun.Star Davao Monday, August 6, said the University of Mindanao, Holy Cross of Davao College, Mats College of Technology, Kolehiyo ng Pantukan, Jeager Judo Club of Tacurong City, Phytons Pit Judo Club, Philippine College of Technology, Davao Judo Association Central Kids Judo Club.

The De La Salle University Green Archers, according to Maelwas, also expressed their interest but eventually withdrew their entry due to conflict of schedule.

Maelwas, however, said the event is presented by the Davao Judo Association in partnership with the Sports Development Division-City Mayors Office (SDD-CMO) to promote discipline, camaraderie and respect among athletes and students through judo.

"It also aims to develop competitive and well-disciplined athletes in the grassroots level and produce good citizens in the community," she said.

The event features men's and women's advance, beginners, boys and girls High School and kids divisions.
