THE Sports Development Division of the Davao City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) has assured that the Davao City–University of the Philippines Sports Complex will have ample time to prepare for the potential hosting of the Palarong Pambansa in 2026.

Mikey Aportadera, SDD-CMO head, confirmed that communications had been received regarding the bidding for the 2026 Palarong Pambansa. He emphasized that there is sufficient time for all facilities to be fully prepared for the National Games.

"Aduna na'y communications sent to my office regarding the bidding of 2026 Palarong Pambansa, in terms of preparation, yes, we have ample time to make sure by then nga magamit gyud tanang facilities nato sa National Games (We have received communications regarding the bidding of the 2026 Palarong Pambansa. We have ample time to ensure that all our facilities will be fully functional by then)," he said during the iSpeak media forum at the City Mayor's Office conference room, Thursday, August 24, 2023.

Aportadera also highlighted that they are aligned with the city mayor's directive to utilize the sports complex should the Palarong Pambansa hosting be awarded to the city. To achieve this, the team will address areas of the complex that have not been used for an extended period. They are also committed to enhancing the visual appeal and constructing a roof above the pool area.

"The pool siguraduon namo nga it will be complete by then para sa preparation namo sa Palarong Pambansa (We are committed to ensuring that the pool will be fully operational by that time for our Palarong Pambansa preparations)," Aportadera said.

Department of Education-Davao Region (DepEd Davao) spokesperson Jenielito "Dodong" Atillo, in a radio interview aired on August 7, said that they eye to host 2026 Palaro.

"I've heard Davao City is considering hosting the Palarong Pambansa again in 2026," Atillo said.

Atillo said Palaro's hosting has traditionally followed a Luzon-Visayas-Luzon-Mindanao rotation. Marikina is hosting this year, Cebu City will host in 2024, and Ilocos Norte in 2025. ICE
