RECORDS were erased as the Davao City Durians tankers dominated the first day of Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2019 swimming competition as of 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City.

Davao City harvested a total of 22 gold medals, 18 silvers and eight bronzes while Tagum City collected four golds, eight silvers and 12 bronzes in second followed by 2-1-2 Panabo City, third 0-1-2 Compostela Valley fourth, 0-0-3 Davao Oriental fifth and 0-0-1 Island Garden City of Samal sixth.

Palarong Pambansa 2018 gold medalist Juliana Marien Villanueva, 14, of Precious International School of Davao, broke her own record in secondary girls 400-meter freestyle. She registered a new Davraa mark of four minutes and 48.25 seconds from her 4:55.23 record last year.

She pocketed her second gold in secondary girls 200m butterfly.

"I was nervous because I was trying to aim for my target time. I expect to sweep all my six events," Villanueva, who won five Davraa golds last year, said.

Lora Micah Amoguis, 13, also smashed the secondary girls 100m backstroke record of Davao Oriental's Necilyn Plaza (1:16.19) with her own 1:13.72. "I feel happy that I broke the Davraa record! I wasn’t able to train last week due to fever and flu. I still have two more events tomorrow. I will try my best.”

She also claimed a silver in 200m individual medley (IM).

Amoguis' younger sister Liaa, for her part, surpassed the former's record (2:26.83) in elementary girls 200m freestyle by finishing in 2:24.15.

Liaa said, "It feels amazing to beat the record of my sister last Davraa. I had a flu and fever last week and wasn’t able to train. I’m not really happy with my time honestly but maybe tomorrow will be better." She also copped the 200m IM gold.

Dabawenya Caitleen Danielle San Felix, meanwhile, registered new Davraa records in elementary girls 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly while Eirron Seth Vibar bested his own Davraa mark in secondary boys 400m freestyle. The latter also nailed the 200m butterfly.
