ARENA Fide master (AFM) Andrei Ainsley Dolorosa emerged champion in the 38th Kadayawan Sports Festival Youth Standard Chess Tournament held at The Peak of Gaisano Mall of Davao over the weekend.

Top-seeded Dolorosa scored perfect seven points in the Swiss System format competition organized by Ronnie Tabudlong and sponsored by the city government of Davao through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO).

The Ateneo de Davao University junior high school student outclassed rivals Lawrence Guanzon, Seong Ho Aparte, Kobi Bryant Segura, Monica Lorraine Togonon, Cairo Senshi Hitun, Hannah Segara, and Chris Joshua Palis in the past seven rounds.

Aparte and Yreil Josh Hernani both amassed six points. However, Aparte secured second place by virtue of superior tiebreaks, relegating Hernani to third.

Rounding up the top 10 were five-pointers Arlton Lance Diaz, Segura, Togonon, and Guanzon, along with 4.0-scorers Ricardo Gian Paolo Labaro, Jules Alexander Recososa, and Jalf Cardino Pitulan.

Togonon was also recognized as the best girls under-14 player.

The rest of the top performers were Angel Jhoanna Halangdon (girls U20), Diaz (boys U18), Nathalie Suter (girls U18), Pitulan (boys U16), CJ Echavia (boys U14), Recososa (boys U12), Sanemheirs Segara (girls U12), Antonio Estefan Inigo Ayo (boys U10), and Hannah Segara (girls U10).

The event awarded cash prizes and medals to the top three players and best category performers.
