Lawyer Marc Fernandez sustained his fiery form to capture the June title of the Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association, Inc. (Datba) monthly tournament held at the SM Lanang Premier Bowling Center Sunday, July 2.
Second-seed Fernandez, who claimed the top spot and the twice-to-beat advantage after the six-game qualifying round, rolled past fourth-seed bank employee Crystal Chavez, 190-85, in a thrilling titular showdown.
Fernandez pocketed the champion's prize of P6,000 while Chavez settled for the runner-up purse of P4,000.
Third and fourth placers Bam Tongo and Edmund Cambaliza, for their part, took home P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.
Fernandez hit a total of 1,206 pinfalls, outclassing Chavez (1,205), Tongo (1,185), and Cambaliza (1,130) in the 12-player, six-game qualifier.
In the shootout, Chavez and Tongo scored identical 202 pinfalls while Cambaliza made 190.
Tournament director Datba Jesrael Rule, in a Messenger interview with SunStar Davao Tuesday, July 4, said: "Tie sila score ni Bam pero since higher seed si Crystal kay Bam so cya nagproceed sa final match (Chavez and Tongo tied in the shootout, but since the former was seeded higher, she advanced to the finals)."
Thus, Chavez arranged a championship match against Fernandez.
Tongo, meanwhile, swept the top qualifier (668) and highest game finals (214) titles, while Rule annexed the highest game qualifying plum (246). MLSA
