Footfest kicks off at Azuela Cove

A TWO-DAY Football Festival kicks off at 7 a.m. Saturday, June 9, at the Azuela Cove Football Pitch in Lanang, Davao City.

Buboy Arrieta of Sports Amusement and Recreation Corporation (Sparcorp) bared this to Sun.Star Davao Thursday.

Today's matches feature teams vying for honors in mixed eight, mixed nine, boys 11, boys 15 and women's open categories while tomorrow, Sunday, teams seeing action are entered in mixed eight, mixed 10, boys 12, boys 14 and men's open division.

"Best local teams are represented and outside Davao teams from as far as Cagayan de Oro City, Butuan City, Gingoog City, Compostela Valley, Davao del Norte, Cotabato City, and Kidapawan City will be coming. We are expecting 100 teams to participate," Arrieta said.

Sparcorp, composed of Arrieta, Carlos Veloso, Andy Tuason and Miguel Tuason, is the sports facilitator for Ayala Group at Azuela Cove compound.

He said the event aims "to let everybody know that we are a new sports hub facility of Davao in partnership with Azuela Cove."

Aside from the football pitch, the hub also has a basketball court and multi-purpose area.

Arrieta also said that Jeremy Castillo and Gab de Castro will serenade participants and spectators at the JTs Manukan tent Saturday afternoon until the women's open games end by 9 p.m.

JTs Manukan is the sponsor of the football festival.
