WE HAVE seen her ride a big bike but wait until you see the other side of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio when she races in the second staging of the Alveo Ironman 70.3 that will kick off on March 24, 2019.

Duterte-Carpio's entry was announced via Facebook by Sunrise Events executive Princess Galura yesterday.

The mayor will team up with Compostela Valley Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy and Taguig City Representative Pia Cayetano who will comprise Davao City's Team Life is Here in the relay event.

Duterte-Carpio will see action in the 21-kilometer run while Uy will do the swim and Cayetano will show her mettle in the 90K bike stage of the triathlon.

Meanwhile, the mayor's husband lawyer Mans Carpio leads Team Tapang at Malasakit, which is also composed of Sports Development Division-City Mayors Office (SDD-CMO) chief Mikey Aportadera and swimming coach Vasit Venturillo. The trio also competed in the first Davao edition this year.

The registration officially opened with about 1,483 registered triathletes as of 4 p.m. Monday, according to Davao City Tourism Operations Office head Generose Tecson.

Over 200 participants signed up onsite while others registered online.

Aportadera, for his part, said more participants are expected next year.
