TWO-TIME world champion Carlos Yulo secured his spot in the Paris Olympics having emerged as the highest-ranked eligible athlete in an apparatus during the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships held on October 1 in Antwerp, Belgium.

The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) bared this in a Facebook post on the same day, "Yulo punches his ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics via a stellar performance at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp, Belgium."

Thus, Yulo became the second Filipino Paris Olympics qualifier, joining World No. 2 pole vaulter Ernest John "EJ" Obiena, who clinched the 19th Asian Games men's pole vault gold medal and set a new record in Hangzhou, China over the weekend.

Although Yulo finished third in the floor exercise qualification with a score of 14.6 points, his performance was enough to propel him to the eight-man final slated on Saturday, October 7.

In the upcoming floor exercise final, the Tokyo Olympian has some breathing room. The other finalists have already secured their Paris qualifications through team and individual all-around performances, or they're deemed ineligible under the regulations of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).

He also clinched a Paris spot in the parallel bars via the same FIG rules despite landing in the 11th spot in the qualification round since gymnasts ahead of him were either already qualified or ineligible. MLSA
