FLOWER vendors at Bankerohan Public Market and those situated near cemeteries in Davao City are bracing for a potential surge in flower prices, which could reach up to P1,000 per bouquet during the upcoming All Saint’s Day and All Souls' Day commemorations.

According to vendors surveyed during SunStar Davao’s price monitoring, the usual price range for arranged bouquets of various flower types, which typically falls around P500, may rise to as much as P800 to P1,000 per bundle.

The selection may include chrysanthemums, roses, sunflowers, and anthuriums, depending on the customer's preference. Presently, flower prices remain stable.

A potted flower, currently priced at P25 to P50 per pot, is projected to surge to P75 to P100 per pot come Undas season.

David Losis, a vendor near one of the cemeteries in the city, anticipates an uptick in flower demand, with suppliers from Calinan, Digos, and Buda potentially raising prices by October 30 and 31.

“Dili lang dapat matingala ang mga tao kay normal lang man na siya, dapat kabalo silang mosaka na karong adlaw sa kalag-kalag kay daghan gusto mopalit ana (People should not be surprised because it is just normal, they should know how to rise on this day of the dead because many want to buy [flowers]),” Losis said.

Another vendor, known as "Jen," pointed out that the price of arranged flowers can also vary depending on the materials used and the specific arrangement requested by the customer.

Meanwhile, "Rex" Wabad, who has been selling flowers for six years, aims to maintain reasonable prices despite rising material and supply costs. He also mentioned plans to offer discounts, depending on customer response to the potential price increase.

Most vendors indicated that they had raised flower prices by a maximum of P5 since the beginning of October. ICE
