DENGUE cases in Tagum City have reached 2,302, according to the City Health Office (CHO).

The latest report from the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit-Tagum shows nine new cases recorded during Morbidity Week 48, from November 24 to 30. The death toll has now risen to 11.

The barangays with the highest number of cases include Visayan Village with 368, Apokon with 289, Mankilam with 279, La Filipina with 187, Madaum with 181, San Miguel with 128, and Magdum with 105.

Of the 2,302 cases, 667 are children aged zero to five, 593 are six to 10 years old, 412 are 11 to 15, and 630 are aged 16 and above.

In a Facebook post on Friday, December 6, 2024, the CHO urged residents to immediately visit the nearest health center or seek treatment if they experience symptoms of dengue.

The CHO also emphasized the importance of strengthening the 5S Kontra Dengue campaign and the 4:00 pm habit, as well as Oplan Kulob. These initiatives aim to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds by covering water containers, disposing of stagnant water, unclogging drains, and practicing proper waste management. The 4:00 pm habit focuses on searching for and destroying mosquito breeding sites such as unused tires and catchment basins.

To address the ongoing outbreak, the CHO has called for strengthening the 5S Kontra Dengue campaign, which includes searching and destroying mosquito breeding sites; self-protect from bites; seeking early medical consultation; supporting fogging in outbreak areas; and sustaining hydration.

“Gitambagan ang tanan nga muadto dayon sa pinakaduol nga Health Center o magpatambal kung makakita o makabati sa mga sintomas sa Dengue (Everyone is advised to go immediately to the nearest Health Center or seek treatment if they see or experience symptoms of dengue),” Tagum CHO said.

The World Health Organization (WHO) warns that while mild dengue cases are common, severe complications can lead to death, especially in tropical regions like the Philippines.

In response to the outbreak, Mayor Rey T. Uy has issued Executive Orders 065 and 062 to launch a citywide clean-up drive and establish a task force to combat Aedes-borne diseases. RGP
