A TOTAL of 157 police officers from the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) will be deployed to ensure peace and order during the Eid’l Adha congregational prayer at Freedom Park, Roxas Avenue, on June 6, 2025.

Police Captain Hazel Caballero Tuazon, DCPO spokesperson, confirmed the deployment during an interview with dxDC RMN Davao. She emphasized that strict safety measures will be enforced for the annual religious gathering, which is expected to draw around 5,000 worshippers from Davao’s Muslim community.

In addition to securing the main prayer venue, the DCPO will monitor 54 mosques across the city. Security operations will continue through June 12 to ensure the peaceful observance of all Eid-related activities.

This year’s preparations build on the success of last year’s celebration, which concluded without incident.

In 2024, the centralized Eid’l Adha prayer was held on June 16 at Millennium Park, Roxas Avenue, with about 2,500 participants. A joint deployment of 251 personnel—including members of the DCPO, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Traffic Management Office—oversaw safety and logistics.

Authorities strictly enforced security protocols, including the ban on backpacks, jackets, pointed objects, alcoholic beverages, and firearms. Drones were also prohibited. Attendees were reminded to follow traffic regulations and support the city’s “Clean As You Go” campaign for waste management.

Eid’l Adha, or the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is one of the holiest occasions in Islam. It commemorates the obedience of Prophet Ibrahim to God and is observed through communal prayers, acts of charity, and gatherings.

As Davao City prepares for the 2025 celebration, both the DCPO and the local Muslim community reaffirm their commitment to upholding the solemnity of the occasion through discipline, cooperation, and mutual respect. DEF
