THE Department of Trade and Industry-Davao Region (DTI-Davao) is launching a bold initiative to transform the region into a thriving investment hub, extending opportunities beyond its bustling urban centers. With a vision to create a more investor-friendly environment, the agency is working closely with local governments to drive economic growth across cities, towns, and provinces.

DTI-Davao Regional Director Romeo Castañaga recently introduced the Davao Region Investment Promotion Sub-Committee (Drips) under the Regional Development Council (RDC) 11. This committee will spearhead a unified investment strategy designed to attract more investors and strengthen the region’s local economies. Moving away from a city-centric approach, DTI-Davao is committed to supporting local governments by equipping them with the necessary tools and resources to draw investments into their communities.

A major component of this strategy is the organization of trade fairs and investment promotion activities, which will serve as platforms to showcase Davao’s economic potential. Among the key events this year is the highly anticipated International Food Expo, which is set to bring global attention to Davao’s food sector. Other national trade fairs include the National Food Fair at SM Megamall in April, the Otop (One Town One Product) Food Fair at Glorietta in June, and the National Trade Fair at SM Megamall in July.

The Mindanao Trade Expo (MTE) series will also be a highlight, with events scheduled at Glorietta in October and the Christmas Village at SM Megamall in November.

Beyond national and international fairs, regional events will play a significant role in DTI-Davao’s investment strategy.

The MTE Araw ng Dabaw Fair in March, the Bagong Pilipinas Beauty and Wellness Fair, the MTE Kadayawan Fair in August, and the MTE Christmas Event in December will provide local entrepreneurs with opportunities to showcase their products and forge new business partnerships.

Castañaga said that these trade fairs are more than just exhibitions—they are strategic tools for connecting businesses with investors, both domestic and international. Key industries such as food, arts and crafts, and coconut products will be in the spotlight, reinforcing Davao’s reputation as a prime investment destination.

The initiative seeks to create jobs and foster long-term economic growth across the region. With the support of Drips, DTI-Davao envisions a future where economic opportunities are accessible to all, ensuring that the benefits of investment reach even the most remote areas of the Davao Region.

Through a collaborative and targeted approach, the agency is laying the foundation for a more inclusive and sustainable economic future. DEF
