AN OFFICIAL from Sta. Ana Wharf said they are anticipating a surge of people in time for the Holy Week commemoration, estimating to triple the usual 100 passengers on ordinary days.

“We are expecting the surge or the bulk of clients and tourists starting tomorrow until Easter Sunday,” Joseph Gabut, officer-in-charge of Sta. Ana Wharf, said in a radio interview on GMA Super Radio Davao, on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

Gabut said that, in anticipation of the influx of passengers, priority lanes have been set up for persons with disabilities (PWDs), the elderly, pregnant women, and children. Medical staff will also be on standby in case of emergencies. Additional tents and seating have been provided for the public.

He added that their office has already coordinated with Task Force Davao (TFD), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the Civil Service Unit (CSU), and the Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO) to ensure the safety and security of both local and international tourists visiting the wharf.

Gabut also reminded passengers not to bring prohibited items such as illegal drugs and sharp objects. He also warned against boarding watercraft while intoxicated to prevent accidents such as falling overboard. If passengers feel unwell, they are advised to seek immediate assistance from the standby medical personnel.

From the usual one trip a day, each boat now is expected to travel two to three times more.

As of now, boat trips remain normal. Motorized boats heading to Isla Reta are scheduled to depart as follows: 9 a.m. motorized banca, 10 a.m. Pacific, 12 noon Jessa 2, and 1 p.m. Talikod Express.

Among the key Holy Week activities in Davao are the Mass and Adoration on April 17, the Stations of the Cross on April 18, the Easter Vigil on April 19, and Easter Sunday Masses on April 20.

Holy Week is a significant religious observance for Catholics in the Philippines, beginning on Palm Sunday and concluding on Easter Sunday. RGP
