THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) confirmed a physical altercation on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, involving a staff member of an animal shelter and security personnel of Maguindanao del Sur Vice Governor Nathaniel Midtimbang outside the latter’s residence in Davao City.

According to a police report from the Ecoland Police Station, a volunteer from the Happy Animals Club was allegedly punched by one of the politician's staff members after refusing to stop filming and delete footage taken in front of the politician’s property.

In a video posted the same day, the shelter explained that several of the politician’s men had been blocking their dog walkers from using the road outside their newly built property. One of the dog rescuers was even assaulted after confronting the men.

The incident quickly went viral on Facebook, but the shelter later deleted the videos. The situation was resolved when Vice Governor Midtimbang personally met with the group and apologized for his security personnel’s actions.

“We have already settled things with Vice Governor Nathaniel Midtimbang, who made an effort to meet and apologize to us for the actions of his personnel,” the shelter’s statement said.

The victim sought medical attention at Southern Philippines Medical Center, Bajada, Davao City, and received a certificate for his injuries. DEF
