VICE President Sara Duterte expressed concerns over the impeachment trial’s crossover from the 19th to the 20th Congress, citing the change in the House of Representatives’ composition.

“Kinu-question din namin yan. Yung pag crossover from the 19th to the 20th Congress. Dahil ang composition ng House of Rep (We are also questioning the crossover from the 19th to the 20th Congress because of the composition of the House of Representatives),” she said in a media interview on June 3, 2025, at The Hague, Netherlands. She declined to provide further details, saying her lawyers would handle the matter.

Earlier, Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa revealed he was behind the resolution calling for the dismissal of the impeachment case against the Vice President.

Meanwhile, Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero announced that the reading of the impeachment charges against Duterte would be postponed from June 2 to June 11.

Duterte was impeached by the House on February 5, with around 200 lawmakers supporting the move.

On the recent appointment of Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III, Duterte criticized the decision, saying it won’t improve the situation in the country. She referenced the selection of the Speaker of the House as an example of questionable decisions.

“In the same way na mayroong recent findings ang Senate of violations of the law of this police officer. So, batik mo naman gagawing Chief of police? So masyadong sketchy yung decision (The Senate recently found violations of law by this police officer. So why appoint him as Chief of Police? That decision is too sketchy),” she said.

To recall, Torre previously served as director of the Police Regional Office–Davao Region (PRO-Davao), where he led the serving of an arrest warrant against Kingdom of Jesus Christ founder Pastor Apollo Quiboloy in September 2024. He also led the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte on March 11, 2025, while heading the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG). RGP
